What is OPTITEX?

 - ‘’Optitex is a computer fashion design software for designing with 2D and 3D visuals, but also allows you to create pattern pieces or layout plans to check the efficiency of the material used.’’

Optitex allows apparel designers to create, alter, and manipulate the garment pattern pieces. But also conduct visual garment fit which is great to see how the garment would look like before the production. It allows you to digitise your pattern pieces or create new pieces in the software. This CAD software allows you to see the garment 3D on an avatar, to see the movement, the fit of the garment. It’s a very interesting way to see the garment before the production and sampling. Also, it would be interesting way to present your ideas to a group and showcase your designs.

Optitex also allows you to create lay out plans. Select the size of your fabric, digitise your pattern pieces using the Digi pen and paper and lay out all your pieces. The software will allow you to move the pieces to create you layout plan and check the efficiency of the lay plan. By using this technique, it would show you the best way to lay out your pieces to make sure to use as little fabric as possible.

This technique of sing the efficiency of the lay plan software would be great for my project. As I am doing zero waste, I would be able to see the lay plan before cutting the fabric and figure it out before the production process.  Also, this is a great idea to present the work to the production team, as all the pieces are labelled, and it would show the production team how you would like the pieces to be layed out during the production process and not waste any fabric.

Optitex also allows you to grade he pattern pieces, which is a quick way to create pieces for different sizes.  The software will use your original pieces and grade them to the size you like. As seen on the image below it shows you all the pattern pieces of a specific garment and the grading sizing table. It shows how many centimetres / inches the pieces will be after grading.
It’s a quick the best and quick way to produce professional pattern pieces that could be printed out and passed on to the production team, along with the lay out plan.
